I have a project to move to London in few months. I used to read and write English, but I know I have some problems to understood people talking to me if they don't sepak slowly.
I've got an English girl friend when i was younger for more than 2 years. During our relationship i improved my English, i wasn't diffucut to communicate even she did not speakfrench at all.
What i am not sure about, did this is enough to find a Job in London, knowing that now i'm not really able to understand an English movie in TV but i understand the News on CNN.
Please advice me.
Thanks in advance.
Hi there
It depends what you want to do in London. If you are motivated and come here with extra money to survive in London until you get yourself a job, it should be ok. If you are happy to work in a restaurant as a waiter or kitchen hand, it should be fine. Contact the CEI french center. They might be able to advise you and to find you a job.
Hi Christelle,
Thx for your answer.
In fact I'm a software engineer with more than 10 years experience in France and I'm really motivated but not till looking for a job in a restaurant as a waiter or kitchen hand :)
In fact,I'm thinking about 2 options:
First option : 1 or 2 weeks holidays in London to contact and have some contact with some IT consultancy companies or IT recruitment agencies in London. To evaluate my english and to have an idea of what i can or i can't do , and decide upon that.
Second Option : Decide to move defintely to London and might i see better. More risky option with the risk to come back to Paris looking for a Job in those diffuct unemployement days.
Thanx.
Faouzi
Hi Faouzi,
If you are good enough in what you do, you might just be able to get a job as a software engineer, that was my case, my English was not great but good enough, and I managed to get a job in IT.
One good way of doing it would be to apply for a job in a small company knowing that you will get pay less, but this will be a win-win situation, the company will use your skills and you will improve your English, once you feel more confident about your English, you will then be able to apply for a new job.
It’s really hard to find a job remotely, the best way is to move in London, but nothing stop you from applying online, pay for an UK number on skype and the recruiter will think that you are in UK, otherwise you will get far less call.
Good luck!!!!
Re,
It's great to know that you work in IT too.
if you have time to review my C.V and tell me what you think.
